The Sunshine Coast Salmonid Enhancement Society is dedicated to sustaining and building salmon and trout stocks in local waterways and facilitating public education regarding salmonid habitat and life cycles.
These goals are achieved mainly through overseeing and funding the operations of the Chapman Creek Hatchery.
We are fortunate to have the assistance of Howe Sound Pulp Mill as their warmer water is instrumental in providing winter incubation & tank facilities for the coho.
Frankly, the hatchery could not operate on the scale that it does without the tremendous efforts of the community, the Chapman Creek Hatchery volunteers, and our two staff. We can always use another hand around the place be it working with the fish, the machinery, the office, the fund-raising or the grounds.
Most of all, we could not sustain our production numbers without the on-going donations of time, gifts-in-kind, and cash from many sources such as our members, the general public, SCRD & Gibsons town councils, SC Credit Union, local volunteers from Royal Bank and many, many local businesses. In addition, we sell fresh trout and tide charts, plus we have a small bottle collection centre sponsored by the folks at Wilson Creek Shell gas station.
Please consider purchasing a membership, sending a donation or even volunteering your time to help maintain the Chinook, Coho, Pink and Chum salmon stocks on the Sunshine Coast. Every little bit of change collected puts another salmon in the water & hopefully, increases their numbers so they may continue to return to our waters.
